Musician
Mame Khan is a Manganiyar singer, composer and performer from Rajasthan, often described as the signature folk voice of the state. His musical career began in Satto, a small village near Jaisalmer, a region where Muslim and Hindu mystical traditions come together.
He belongs to a family of master singers who have kept a unique oral tradition alive for more than fifteen generations. He credits much of his energy and vocal skill to the influence of his father and teacher, the late Shri Rana Khan.
Mame Khan sings a wide repertoire of traditional folk and Sufi songs. It includes Jangra, the Manganiyar style with songs for every occasion in life, from wedding songs to songs welcoming a newborn child. He also sings verses by poets such as Mira Bai, Kabir, Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, Bulleh Shah and Baba Ghulam Farid.
His voice has reached stages across India, Europe, America, Africa and the Gulf countries. He appeared on Coke Studio season 2 in Amit Trivedi's episode, is the main vocalist of Roysten Abel's Manganiyar Seduction, and has sung playback for Bollywood films including Luck By Chance, I Am, No One Killed Jessica, Sonchiriya and Baby John.
